Smart Integration Authorization

This functionality is available since version 4.11.

Overview

Smart Integration suggestion operations send resource and midPoint data to the external Smart Integration microservice (which may use an LLM) and create background tasks. Access to them is controlled by a dedicated authorization, enforced on the backend service, the REST API, and in the GUI.

Statistics are not covered by this authorization; they are protected by regular object-scoped model authorizations.

Authorizations

For brevity, this page uses abbreviated action URIs, e.g. authorization-ui-3#smartIntegration. They stand for the full URIs starting with http://midpoint.evolveum.com/xml/ns/public/security/, e.g. http://midpoint.evolveum.com/xml/ns/public/security/authorization-ui-3#smartIntegration.
Action Scope Note

authorization-ui-3#smartIntegration

Smart Integration service operations: submitting AI suggestion operations and reading their status and results (object types, focus type, correlations, mappings, associations), listing suggestion tasks, schema matching, and AI service information.

Enforced by the backend service regardless of the channel (GUI, REST, tasks). Without it, the related GUI actions are hidden.

authorization-rest-3#smartIntegration

All Smart Integration REST endpoints (submit, status and AI info operations).

REST clients need authorization-ui-3#smartIntegration as well, because the endpoints call the backend service, which enforces it.

Superuser has both authorizations via http://midpoint.evolveum.com/xml/ns/public/security/authorization-3#all. No other out-of-the-box role grants them. Grant them explicitly to custom roles that should use Smart Integration, e.g. resource administrators.

Enforcement

Backend Service

SmartIntegrationService checks authorization-ui-3#smartIntegration at the start of each suggestion-related operation. This also applies to the suggestion activities, which run under the identity of the task owner. The task owner therefore needs the authorization, too.

REST API

Each Smart Integration REST endpoint requires authorization-rest-3#smartIntegration. The backend service check then applies as well. This also covers clients that call the REST API directly, e.g. midPoint Studio.

GUI

Users without authorization-ui-3#smartIntegration don’t see Smart Integration suggestion features in the resource wizard: suggestion buttons, suggestion toggles, and AI progress/alert panels for object types, associations, mappings and correlations.

Statistics and Smart Integration Artifacts

Object type and object class statistics, as well as schema match results, are stored as SmartIntegrationArtifactType objects. They are read, created and deleted through the model layer, so regular object-scoped authorizations apply (read, add, delete on SmartIntegrationArtifactType).

Computing, regenerating and viewing statistics does not require the #smartIntegration authorization. Statistics entry points in the GUI are not hidden by the #smartIntegration authorization. The operations themselves fail without the object-scoped authorizations.

Schema matching requires both the #smartIntegration authorization and the object-scoped authorizations.

Example

Authorizations specific to Smart Integration:

<role xmlns="http://midpoint.evolveum.com/xml/ns/public/common/common-3">
    <name>Smart Integration User</name>
    <authorization>
        <name>smart-integration</name>
        <action>http://midpoint.evolveum.com/xml/ns/public/security/authorization-ui-3#smartIntegration</action>
    </authorization>
    <authorization>
        <name>smart-integration-tasks</name>
        <action>http://midpoint.evolveum.com/xml/ns/public/security/authorization-model-3#add</action>
        <object>
            <type>TaskType</type>
            <owner>
                <special>self</special>
            </owner>
        </object>
    </authorization>
    <authorization>
        <name>smart-integration-artifacts</name>
        <action>http://midpoint.evolveum.com/xml/ns/public/security/authorization-model-3#read</action>
        <action>http://midpoint.evolveum.com/xml/ns/public/security/authorization-model-3#add</action>
        <action>http://midpoint.evolveum.com/xml/ns/public/security/authorization-model-3#delete</action>
        <object>
            <type>SmartIntegrationArtifactType</type>
        </object>
    </authorization>
</role>

For REST access, add http://midpoint.evolveum.com/xml/ns/public/security/authorization-rest-3#smartIntegration.

Suggestion operations are submitted as tasks owned by the user, hence smart-integration-tasks.

The user also needs the usual authorizations for working with resources in the GUI (resource pages and wizard, reading and modifying the resource).
