Last modified 21 Nov 2025 09:13 +01:00

This guide helps you work with archetypes in the web administrative user interface of midPoint.

Introduction

Archetypes are well-defined object subtypes. Employee, Contractor, Project, Workgroup, or Application can be archetypes for various classes of objects based on their character.

See Archetypes for a more in-depth introduction to the archetype concept.

Refer to Archetype Configuration for more advanced guides on working with archetypes using XML configuration files.

List all available archetypes

In  Archetypes, click  All archetypes.

The list shows all archetypes defined in your midPoint instance. There are many predefined archetypes prepared for various uses, such as for users, applications, or tasks.

Click the name of an archetype to open it for editing and to inspect its settings.

Create an archetype

  1. In  Archetypes, click  New archetype.

  2. Fill in the archetype Name, Display name, and other properties.

    • Refer to Archetype Configuration for explanation of the attributes.

    • Select a Super archetype if you wish the new archetype to inherit settings from an existing archetype.

  3. Click  Save at the top of the screen.
